Inter-Action

The response to Inter-Action was incredible with more than 40 people applying for just 15 places. After an interview evening at Holborn’s Dragon Hall and lots of difficult decisions the final group were selected to be part of Inter-Action. These young people from across London will now receive specialist training and guidance on how they can work together to promote interaction and cohesion between young people from different communities.

This started over the first weekend in October when the group took part in their first residential together at Woodrow High House. With the support of their tutor Tony McKenzie it was an opportunity for the a very diverse group of young people to build a strong team identity as well as learn the skills and techniques they will need to go back to their communities and start working with young people. As Jasmeet Singh Rekhi an Inter-Action student explained, “Inter-Action is special because it allows us, from different areas and different backgrounds, to work with each other to help the youth to empower themselves”

One of the ways Inter-Action will empower young people is through the Keyfund model of Youth Action, and this is the first group trained as Keyfund Facilitators by London Youth’s Natasha De-Freitas who was impressed by the groups potential: “It’s been great to work with such an enthusiastic and passionate group of youth workers. Coming from such a wide range of backgrounds, life experience and youth work settings, the group have already shown the power and potential of this kind of intercultural collaboration. Being able to integrate the Keyfund model of Youth Action into this programme has allowed us to reach into under-represented communities and make a more meaningful impact in improving the skills, confidence and participation of young people across London.”
