Getting Ready for 2012 and Beyond

London Youth are developing an ambitious programme of competitions and training in partnership with a range of community and sporting partners ensuring that when the Olympics come to town in 2012, all young Londoners stand to gain. The aim of the programme is to capacity build youth clubs so that they are fully equipped to run sport and physical activity sessions, with the support of the local community. This will be done in a number of ways:

  • 5 sub-regional sports development officers
  • Local taster sessions
  • Level 1 sports training or equivalent
  • Coaching packs and resources
  • sports equipment
  • Local competitions
  • Sub-regional competitions
  • Pan London competitions
  • Sport specific volunteers

It is our aim that every young person we work with on 'Getting Ready' will be given the opportunity to take part in a physical activity that they enjoy no matter what their previous experience or relationship with sport.

We will be launching the programme with the following sports:

  • Basketball
  • Table Tennis
  • Athletics
  • Football
  • Boxing
  • Tape ball cricket
  • Street Dance
  • Indoor rowing
