Youth Action and Leadership

Youth Action and Leadership

Anyone who’s been on a Youth Action team programme knows we do things a bit differently. Youth involvement is at the core of what we do, and what we do is deliver exciting, fun and innovative training which inspires young people to make a difference.

Youth Action is all about YOU! What are you passionate about, what makes you angry, what would you like to do differently and who you can you inspire? Our programmes give you the skills and confidence to design, lead and then learn from your own projects. We believe the best way to learn is to do, you might make mistakes along the way but you’ll come out the other end better for it.

A programme for everyone

Urban Nature is all about the environment, inspiring young people from youth clubs across London to get passionate about the world around them and then running a local environmental project.

Our Youth Leadership programme happens every summer and is a brilliant step up for those ready to step up into a leadership role in their local youth club or community. Residential training at Woodrow High House looks at leadership styles, group dynamics and conflict resolution. We’ll then support you to run up to eight sessions back at your youth club using these new skills; you’ll receive an AQA in Youth Leadership for your efforts.

Through our Talkin' Bout our Generation project, we got young people talking about issues such as age discrimination, the aging process and the generation gap. Young people’s opinions were then distributed through our networks and we hope will form the basis of further work in this area.

And with Athan 31 we take youth action to scale, providing training to youth workers and money for young people to run their own projects.

Additionally, this summer, London Youth will be franchising with The Challenge Network to deliver their three-week summer programme for young sixteen-year-olds in Hackney and Tower Hamlets!

The Team

All of these programmes are delivered by a core team of committed staff who are passionate about the potential of young people being the best they can be. Wherever possible we use peer facilitators and young trainers to deliver workshops, we know you learn best from your peers and this approach keeps things fresh and dynamic.

Walkin' the Walk

London Youth practices what it preaches, getting young people involved at every stage of its own governance and decision-making – from staff recruitment to the Trustee Board through our Youth Advisory Board, Dare London. Our Youth Action team is accredited by Reach, the national standard for youth volunteering and social action.
