Youth organisations

Young people visiting Woodrow High House with youth clubs typically participate in personal and social development programmes supplementing team building activities with workshops facilitated by their leaders.

Visiting groups often choose to make full use of the sporting, adventurous and creative activities – such as the astroturf, the ropes course and the recording Studio. Activities are carefully designed and run so that young people have to develop problem solving skills, trust one another and fully participate, acquiring capabilities and responsibility that are fundamental life skills.  Our instructors also focus on supporting youth club leaders, using their experience to help them encourage and enable young people to get involved.

Vibert Murdoch from the Springfield Club for Young People has been visiting Woodrow since he was a young lad...

"Over the years Woodrow and the staff have been responsible for many changes within young people and adults that have been fortunate enough to stay at the House. The experience Woodrow provides is, in my view, unique.  I remember this as my first experience of the countryside.  As a young boy living in Hackney I remember thinking to myself.  Where are the street lights? I am now in a position where I can organise and offer that same opportunity to others."

Howard Skepple from Northworld Community Project in East London recently used Woodrow for an intergenerational project. He takes up the story...

"It went brilliantly. The elderly had a chance to see what the young people did when they went away and they took part in some of the more gentle activities. There were activities, discussions and workshops. The project genuinely challenged and changed assumptions on both sides. Woodrow is a great space – it works because the atmosphere is so warm and friendly."
