Schools

Outside the classroom, we work with young people beyond their normal environment with a lasting effect on personal and social development.

"The children always say that it’s the best trip, that they feel they get the most freedom. They feel we’re more relaxed with them (the atmosphere at school can feel quite controlling these days). It’s a very special place with a very special atmosphere and I haven’t been anywhere quite like it."
Michelle Cohen, Bovingdon

Young people themselves prefer learning outside the classroom, describing it as ‘exciting, practical, motivating, refreshing and fun’ (Ofsted 2008).

Studies also show the importance of place: a historic building helps to stimulate learning and bring extra depth to an experience (Joseph Rowntree Foundation 2008) and at Woodrow young people stay in a building that's 350 years old.

For all schools we create an individual programme that fits with your curriculum needs and desired outcomes. Choose from outdoor activities like orienteering, night walk and the ropes course, leadership and teamwork development tasks, environmental activities like pond dipping, or sporting options like the astroturf and swimming pool. Try and fit in a visit to our observatory!
