Activenture

Residential Helpers (13-18yrs)

The Activenture Team consists of the Head of Activenture, Residential Coordinator and Housekeeper, Registered Nurse, Activity Organiser, Group Leaders and Helpers.

The Residential Helper role is to be a companion and give support to a guest with physical/non physical impairments (aged 8-18).

Responsibilities:

You will be resident at the centre throughout the Activenture stay and will be one of 5-7 Helpers in your group and together you will be a friend and helper to 5-7 guests. Within the group you will be specifically assigned for helping and befriending each day one particular guest.

You will be responsible to and need to take leadership and guidance from your own Group Leader. This will include attending promptly to the directed work of the group and the daily briefings and continual support of the guests in your group. Also (under supervision) some intimate/personal hygiene and general day-to-day needs of the guest. You will be expected to encourage (as directed) the participation of your guests in the programme. You will further be expected to be observant at all times and be an active and energetic support to your group leader and the work of your group.

What’s in it for ME:

You will gain tremendous experience in achieving tasks that perhaps previously you felt would be a challenge. You will be part of a team achieving “real time” outcomes that will be hard won. You may discover and create long-term friendships for which you can be immensely proud. You will have completed a piece of work that had real purpose for someone else and maybe you too will also experience a sense of purpose for yourself. You will be awarded an attendance certificate for each residential stay attended. These can be added to your CV and Record of Achievement.

Qualifications:

  • A caring attitude and a willingness to help others.

  • A “Get on with the Job” approach.

  • A strong a sense of humour.

  • Able to physically support others.

All volunteers are required to have an Activenture enhanced CRB check, provide two character references before attending their first Activenture. We will organise this when it is necessary.

We ask all volunteers to consider making a suggested voluntary donation of £25 per stay attended. This is optional and does not affect your chances of volunteering for Activenture, but does help towards our fundraising.

You must have attended induction training before your residential stay – either download an Induction Training Application Form or go to the Induction Training page to find out more.
