Quotes

"Activenture has been such a support – our daughter loved it and benefited from the social integration so much – it helped us so much as a family and we can’t thank you enough” (the parent of a guest)

"Activenture was one of the most intense, exhausting and rewarding experiences of my life and I would urge anyone interested to go for it!” (a new volunteer)

"Dear Activenture

Sorry to have taken so long to get around to writing this very important letter.

Charlotte had such a wonderful time on her Activenture week. I am frankly lost as to who I have the most admiration for, the guests, the helpers or the organisers.

It will always be very difficult for any parent of a delicate or vulnerable child to entrust their care to anyone let alone complete strangers. However if as parents we can summon up the courage to take that risk then many people can benefit from the experience.

The child has the chance to break away from the confines of being tied to parents; the parents have a chance to direct their attention to other brothers or sisters or indeed themselves. The helpers have a chance to show that there is a group of people who don’t care what you look like, or what you can’t do for yourself. It’s what you are capable of doing that counts and that could be more than you realise.

The helpers are truly amazing as the unselfish as the unselfish attitude they bring is both refreshing and gives reassurance that meeting new people does not always mean stress. I cannot imagine where you find people of all ages that are prepared to enter into an environment where they will have to help less able individuals which could involve doing some pretty unpleasant duties and sacrifice their holiday for the privilege.

Please relay our thanks to all concerned for their time energy and attitude, it helps to restore our faith in human beings.

Please also continue with the diaries as they are vital for those of us who have communication problems.

Charlotte has had the chance to understand that she can be understood by people outside her immediate circle and that she has an obligation to take control of her own destiny and not rely entirely on parents.

Charlotte had a fantastic time and has said that she would love to do it again."
