Charity

Owned by the Federation of London Youth Clubs (London Youth) and set in the beautiful Chiltern Hills near Amersham, this lovely old 17th Century Manor House, once occupied by Oliver Cromwell's family during the English Civil War, provides a kaleidoscope of training and activity opportunities to almost 5000 youngsters who attend courses at the House each year.

For some it is their only break from the risks and confinement of inner city life. For many who return, year on year, it is a journey to opportunity and discovery. For all, a visit to Woodrow High House represents a unique and intensely rewarding experience which will assist the passage along the often difficult journey from childhood to adulthood.

Each year thousands of children and young people visit Woodrow High House, some leaving their city culture at the gate to absorb the beauty, learn about the countryside, and undertake training and activities to enhance their personal development in a unique and historical setting.

In addition to services provided to inner city youngsters, the house provides a considerable range of services to local schools and educational bodies, as well as local community groups and charities.

The house has been the venue for superb activity holidays for chronically and terminally ill youngsters and more recently we have hosted very successful holiday and respite programmes for severely disabled young people through London Youth's Activenture programmes. These programmes provide superb activity courses but also provide opportunities to healthy and able-bodied teenagers to give service to others by serving as caring "friends" to their disabled peers. In addition, families and carers can enjoy a well earned break from the unrelenting demands of caring for a disabled child.

The vital work and development of Woodrow High House is very dependant upon charitable donations as well as the local fund raising initiatives undertaken by the dedicated team of fundraising volunteers named the Friends of Woodrow.
