voluntary helper (ages 14+)

The Activenture Staff Team consists of the Activenture Manager, Course
Director and Housekeeper, Registered Nurse, Activity Organiser and
Group Leaders and Young Helpers.
The Young Helpers job is
to be a friend and helper to a disabled guest (aged 8-18).
Responsibilities:
You will be resident at the centre throughout the Activenture week. You
will be one of [4-5] Young Helpers in your group and together you will
be a friend and helper to [4-5] disabled guests. Within the group you
will be specifically attached and responsible for helping and befriending
each day one particular disabled guest.
You will be responsible to, and need to take leadership and guidance
from, your own staff Group Leader. This will include attending promptly
to the directed work of the group and the daily briefings and continual
care of the disabled guests in your group. This will include (under supervision)
some intimate/personal hygiene and general day-to-day needs of the disabled
guest. You will also be expected to encourage (as directed) the participation
of your disabled guests in the programme of the week. You will further
be expected to be observant at all times and be an active and energetic
support to your group leader and the work of your group.
What’s in it for ME:
You will gain tremendous experience in achieving tasks that previously you felt
incapable of. You will be part of a team achieving “real time” outcomes
that will be hard won. You may discover and create long-term friendships for
which you can be immensely proud. You will have completed a piece of work that
had real purpose for someone else, and maybe you
too will also experience a sense of purpose for yourself. You will be expected
to attend certificated
training prior to the week where you will be introduced to the essential equipment
you may be required to use. This is an occasion when you will be able to meet
others also involved on the programme. You will also be awarded an
attendance certificate for each residential week attended. These can be
added to your CV and Record of Achievement.
Qualifications:
- A caring attitude and a willingness to help others.
- A “Get on with the Job” approach.
- A strong a sense of humour.
- Physically fit.
