fundraising Activenture is extremely popular and there is an ever-increasing demand for places, however providing these opportunities and running such a project is extremely expensive, calling for expert multi-staffing, good quality activities and special medical equipment. It goes without saying that Activenture costs a lot of money each year, facilitating nearly 1000 volunteers and 400 guests. Although each guest pays to attend a residential week, we have to rely on the good will of many organisations and individuals whom very kindly make donations. The donations enable us to cover all the costs of running Activenture and as such are an essential requirement. With Activenture weeks operating during most school holidays, and the amount of volunteer training required in between, its no wonder that our specialised equipment is well used and therefore has to be constantly serviced or replaced, plus the simplest of things such as disposable gloves, or craft materials all costs money, which soon mounts up.
We are very fortunate to receive many unexpected cheques in the post from individuals kind enough to think of us - perhaps because we have been of service, or perhaps because they have witnessed the work that we do. Some schools and colleges have also very kindly nominated us as their charity and donated proceedings as result of non-uniform days and other events. Many of our volunteers and other supporters have become Friends of Activenture by donating £10 annually, to receive regular newsletters and information about events during the year.
We have a fund raising committee which consists of a body of volunteers that meet once a quarter to plan events such as: Sponsored Duck Race, Sponsored Dog Walks, Sponsored Swims, Fayres, Sponsored Canoe Trips, Non-Events (people pay not to come!), Fashion Shows.
Some charities such as Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Women's Institute, offer to pay for the cost of days out (e.g. a day in Brighton followed by a disco and BBQ). Some prefer to donate new equipment such as wheelchairs, and shower equipment, others sponsor a guest from their area. Recently the Inner Wheel Club of Worthing took on a massive task of restoring our Activenture Tapestry (approximately 4m x 10m) which took a team of ladies over six months to complete. As part of London Youth we are also supported by a fundraising team in London. Through them we have received considerable support from charities such as City Bridge Trust, Jack Petchey Foundation, CHK Charities and the Four Acre Trust to name a few. If you or your organisation would like to consider fund raising for Activenture, we would love to hear from you.
