Nick Wilkie

Nick has led London Youth since June 2006.

As Chief Executive, he is responsible for strategy, governance, culture and economics.

Right now, Nick is particularly excited about: the new dormitory block at Hindleap Warren coming on stream (so that we never have to say no to 1300 young people again like we did last year); the stellar success of Getting Ready for the Games and Beyond (increasing participation in sport by 35.8% amongst the 7,366 young Londoners who’ve taken part so far); and how we’re taking our work on youth action to scale by importing a model from Newcastle called The Keyfund.

In 2010 he’s going to be hands-on with a major appeal to safeguard the physical fabric of wonderful (17th century) residential centre Woodrow High House for generations to come - and with the development of our pioneering disability initiative Activenture, as well as working with NESTA to explore how schools and youth clubs might work more closely together.

Prior to joining London Youth, Nick made the tea during the setting up of The Young Foundation, led NCVO’s Sustainable Funding Project, flogged charity Christmas cards and worked in Hackney and Glasgow as a youth and community worker. He has also been an MP’s research assistant and a seconded adviser to The Treasury. Nick has served on a number of ministerial advisory boards and as a non-executive director of Futurebuilders and The Social Enterprise Coalition.

Born in Manchester, raised in the Peak District and educated in Shropshire, Western Australia, Cambridge and London, Nick now lives in Stockwell. His hobbies are going to the theatre and walking up hills. His all-time number one hero is Clement Attlee. He follows football (Macclesfield Town) and plays cricket badly.
