John Fidgett This is John's 7th year at Woodrow High House and his 25th in outdoor education. At the age of 25 John started work full time at High Ashurst outdoor education centre in Surrey, having spent many years working part time and as a volunteer with his local youth club in Brixton, where he grew up. He was also involved in a youth sail project which sailed a 72’ ketch called ‘Arethusa’ based on the Medway around the South and East coast of England and the Northern French coast. John studied at what is now the University of Greenwich whilst working at High Ashurst, and gained his professional qualification as a youth worker three years later. He went on to manage Felbury House, a 25 room purpose built residential centre, also in Surrey, for the county youth association. This incorporated PHAB, an organisation that works with people with disabilities. He did this for 10 years before joining Woodrow High House initially as deputy, then in September 2008 as Head of Centre. John is proud of the fact that 25 years after initially achieving his professional Lifeguard qualification he retook the exam and qualified once again. He has the T-shirt to prove it!
